Autumn 2013 | SUMMITS on Manaslu, Cho Oyu and Shishapangma
Summits are reported from Cho Oyu, Manaslu and Shishapangma. Climbers left Base Camps earlier this week, hoping to make it to the top on September 25th. Fortunately, the favorable weather persisted as expected and several climbers were successful in reaching the respective summits, today.
Manaslu
Around 60 climbers were estimated to be the part of today’s Manaslu summit bid, and apparently majority of them were successful in reaching the top. As per Himalayan Experience report, 29 of its climbers and Sherpas summited, this morning. Eight members of Altitude Junkies expedition, including Everest blogger Alan Arnette, also made it to the top. Climbers from HimEx and Altitude Junkies have descended to BC or C1, now.
Turkish climber, Tunc Findik, bagged his 10th eight-thousander when he reached the Manaslu summit at 09:30AM, this morning. He is currently descending to BC in foggy and rainy weather.
Finding appropriate conditions, Markus Amon, Hannes Gröbner and Sepp Hechenberger, also decided to go for summit, today. Unlike other summiteers who started the ascent from C4, the Austrians went up from lower camps. It’s reported that Markus climbed from C2 and reached the top in the morning, while Hannes and Sepp summited in the afternoon. As per last report, Hannes and Sepp were in C3, while Markus was descending to BC.
Cho Oyu
American Adrian Ballinger, Russian Sergey Baranov, Passang Bhote Sherpa and Namygal Sherpa reached the summit at 12:40PM today. They were the first climbers to climb Cho Oyu, this season. Adrian and Sergey were also successful in making a ski descent and were down to C2 by the afternoon.
Meanwhile, the weather is forecasted to remain favorable till 27th, which has motivated majority of the climbers to make a summit attempt before the conditions change. They are currently in C3 and will be going for the summit, tonight.
Shishapangma
British climbers, Rich Emerson and Dave Etherington, who were the first to make a summit push on Shishapangma this season, had to turn back 450m short of summit. They are back in ABC, now. It’s not confirmed whether the team will be making another summit attempt or not.
But the news about Shishapangma ascent arrived from Hungary, this evening. Although, the complete details about the ascent are not available yet, it appears that lady climber, Lestak Erzsebet, was successful on Shishapangma.
