Winter 2015 | Progress on Nanga Parbat, Simone Moro's New Project

A good weather window prompted Nanga Parbat climbers to resume working on Kinshofer route. They were able to establish C2 yesterday and are progressing towards C3 now. Veteran winter climber Simone Moro has also disclosed his upcoming winter expedition.

Daniele Nardi on Kinshofer Route
Daniele Nardi has abandoned his ambitious objective of climbing Mummery Rib and decided to join Iranian team and Alex Txikon on Kinshofer route. The Italian mountaineer was able to reach 6100m on Mummery Spur last week. However, it appears that avalanche danger was major cause of change in plans. Recall that an avalanche whacked his C3 tent last week, 15 minutes after his departure from camp.

Daniele’s influx definitely reinforces the strength of Kinshofer route team.

C2, Finally!
After multiple attempts to overcome the challenges of Kinshofer Wall (between C1 and C2), climbers were finally able to set up C2 at around 6000m-6100m yesterday. Alex Txikon, Ali Sadpara and Daniele Nardi arrived first and were joined by Muhammad Khan a while later. Iranian climbers couldn’t make it to C2 and turned back to BC.

The team left BC in two groups: Alex Txikon, Ali Sadpara and Daniele Nardi ascended to C1 on Feb 9th whereas Muhammad Khan and Iranian Trio (Reza Bahadorani, Iraj Maani and Mahmood Hashemi) stayed in BC. On 10th, the leading group completed rope fixing to C2.

Iranian team’s plan of direct ascent from BC to C2 didn’t work and by end of the day, they were at the middle of Kinshofer wall. They were forced to turn back and spend the night in BC. However, Muhammad Khan was able to reach C2 late at night.

The four climbers who were in C2 last night, are expected to resume route fixing towards C3 today.
