Winter 2016 | Nanga Parbat Summit Push Continues: C3!

Strong wind, yesterday, threatened to thwart the summit attempt on Nanga Parbat. Conditions, however, improved this morning and the climbers are on the way to C3. Weather forecasts frequently change on Nanga Parbat, but as of now Mountain-Forecast predicts a patch of fair weather till Saturday evening.

C2 and Strong Wind
Alex Txikon, Ali Sadpara, Simone Moro and Tamara Lunger started the ascent from BC on Monday (Feb 22nd) morning. Strong wind made the climb challenging and it took them more than 10hrs to reach C2 (6100m). The team was surprised to see that the camp has been partially damaged by wind. “The deposit was broken and two mattress had flown away. They extended the tent for C3 inside for better isolation,” the climbers was ready for a cold night.

The wind started to blow even strongly yesterday, and the team was unable to leave C2.

Towards C3!
The windstorm finally gave way to calmness at night (around 2:00am local time). “The day has dawned wonderful and calm today.”

Alex Txikon, Ali Sadpara, Simone Moro and Tamara Lunger resumed the ascent to C3 at around 0930hrs local time and are expected to reach C3 shortly. Given the good weather forecast, the team may set up C4 (around 7200m or higher) and launch summit push in coming days.
