Nanga Parbat Massacre - Alleged Attackers Arrested
In a major development regarding Nanga Parbat Massacre, Diamir Police has claimed that it reached the hideout of terrorists and arrested around 20 men in a targeted operation, reports Dawn News. The arrests were made with the collaborative efforts of Diamir Police, Pak Army and other law enforcement agencies. It’s reported that a massive targeted operation to arrest the terrorists was launched by Pakistan Army, last week.
As per Superintendent of Police, Muhammad Navid, the group was involved in various violence activities in the region like sectarian killings in 2012, murders at Nanga Parbat Diamir BC and the deadly attack on Nanga Parbat Massacre investigators in Chilas.
"We have arrested some 20 men in connection with the killings of locals and foreigners. We reached the hideouts of the terrorists involved in the assassination of security officials, foreign tourists and sectarian killings on Karakoram Highway and Naran-Kaghan road (Lulu Sar) after tremendous efforts," SP Diamer Navid said on Monday.
"These men also carried out sectarian killings during 2012 in Harban Das and Lulusar points in which Shia passengers were lined up after identification and shot dead. In another two days, we will reveal more details about the terrorists that we have arrested. Due to the sensitivity of the issue, we can’t give out any more information."
The first incident of violence in Chilas region took place in February 2012, when 18 Shia Muslim bus passengers were killed in Harban Das, Kohistan district. Jundallah, a group linked with Al-Qaeda and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed the responsibility of the attack. In August 2012, more than 20 Shia passengers were murdered in the Lulusar valley by Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) attackers who were wearing military uniforms.
On the night of June 22 -23, a group of over a dozen terrorists disguised in security uniforms stormed Diamir BC killing 11 climbers from six different countries. Following the attack, all climbers were evacuated from the region and area was sealed for climbing activities. As per TTP representative, the attack was carried out by its faction, Junud-ul-Hifsa. Three senior security officials probing the Nanga Parbat Diamir BC Massacre were also shot dead in the town of Chilas on August 6th.
